Dissertation Portfolio - LAUFBC601

A critical examination of hype and its relationship to consumer behaviour within the streetwear industry.

As part of my final year I was asked to write a 5,500 word professional essay on a topic of my choice, taking inspiration from my degree and my career progression, accompanied by a portfolio expressing my creative practice. As I have a keen interest in consumer behaviour and fashion psychology I wanted to represent this throughout my essay. The study of hype as a marketing tool and social phenomenon has been prevalent to me in my academic and personal life therefore I seemed fitting to explore this topic further.

Throughout my essay I discussed topics of subculture, exclusivity and inclusivity, emotional belonging, the intersection of fashion and culture, conspicuous consumption and how conscious we are to our buying patterns. The essay and portfolio were designed to influenced one another and below I have included my portfolio from this module.
